I have installed IIS V5.1 in my Win XP Service Pack 2, but I have no idea how do I go around configuring the SMTP server so that my server is able to forward/receive email. How do I use my server machine to send an email to my Yahoo account and vice versa.
I’m trying to set up a .Mac account, and when I tried to send an email it told me I had the wrong SMTP server. I know how to change which outgoing server I want to use, but I don’t actually know what my server is. Is it determined by my Internet connection? I get it through Comcast, and I have an AirPort Extreme router…so how do I find out exactly what it is?
This is driving me nuts! We have a small workgroup LAN that we use to share an broadband connection to the Internet. This is done via a router with a built in firewall. Everything is functioning as normal but I noticed whenever we’d try to access webmail the connection will timeout. Personally I use an email client and the smtp and pop servers work without a hitch. It’s only when we try to access the webmail we can’t get to it. I’ve run traceroutes on several remote sites and they can access the site just fine.
Right now I’m wondering if it’s a problem with our network or is it the ISP. It’s just strange that we can get to almost every other site just fine but the webmail is timing out.
I’d appreciate any input anyone can offer me. I’m at a loss.
I should also mention that loss of connection to the site is intermittent. Sometimes I can get to the site and other times I get the time out.
I’m a high school student. Sometimes I forget to print my homework, I get to school and I can’t turn it in. My parents aren’t very proficent, so asking them to find a file in a folder and emailing it to me is not a fesible solution.
So, I was wondering, is it possible to save all of my homework directly from Word into a special folder on my computer that can be accessed from the internet and my computer. The only catch is I can’t install any software on the school computer’s. Besides violating the tech contract, they disabled a lot of features such as as the command line. I also don’t want to do anything that would look suspicious, is visting an IP adress, not a website constructed of letters supscious?
Any suggestions, or am I better off emailing everything to gMail each night?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I’m running Windows XP Pro on a Dell Laptop with a single hard drive of approx. 40 gigs.
Could I link a common domain name:
website.net
to my computer’s IP address?
